Daniel Caudill has provided voters with clear stances on key issues by responding to the 2020 Political Courage Test.
| Pro-choice | a) Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation? | ||
| Yes | b) Do you support legalizing abortion when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape? | ||
| No | c) Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions? | ||
| A womans right to choose what to do with her body is basic principle. There are a large number of steps that can be taken to limit the need for an abortion. That is where my energy is. | |||
| No | a) In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions? | ||
| Yes | b) In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket? | ||
| A balanced budget should come from corporate taxes and the extremely wealthy. The average North Carolinian should not be on the hook for this. | |||
| Yes | a) Do you support a limit on campaign contributions to state candidates? | ||
| Yes | b) Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions? | ||
| Yes | c) Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting? | ||
| No | d) Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls? | ||
| Yes | e) Do you support automatic voter registration? | ||
| Yes | f) Do you support the removal of foreign citizens from state voting rolls? | ||
| Our right to vote and have our vote counted is the cornerstone of our Democratic Republic. And and all efforts should be made to make it as fair and accurate as possible. Our citizens need to trust that process. | |||
| No | a) Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes? | ||
| No | b) Should an individual under 18 accused of a violent crime be prosecuted as an adult? | ||
| No | c) Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police? | ||
| No | d) Do you support the use of private prisons in North Carolina? | ||
| No | e) Do you support mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent drug offenders? | ||
| Yes | f) Do you support the prosecution of hate crimes as felonies? | ||
| Yes | g) Do you support requiring state and local law enforcement to publicly disclose use-of-force data reports? | ||
| Private prisons are a model based on payment to a corporation based on how many inmates they hold. I cant think of a worse idea. Each state has its own issues regarding immigration. A federal pathway to citizenship should be in place but states need to handle immigration problems based on their specific needs. | |||
| Yes | a) Do you support state government spending as a means of promoting economic growth? | ||
| No | b) Do you support lowering state income taxes as a means of promoting economic growth? | ||
| No | c) Do you support reducing government regulations on the private sector? | ||

| No | f) Do you support requiring employers to provide paid family leave? | ||
| Yes | g) Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19? | ||
| Saying no to the question of employers being required to provide paid family leave was hard for me. I work in a industry where saying yes to that could shutter that business. We need a better system for paid family leave. At this time, however, that isnt the answer. | |||
| Yes | a) Do you support adopting federal education standards in North Carolina? | ||
| Yes | b) Do you support state funding for charter schools? | ||
| Yes | c) Do you support increasing teacher salaries AND/OR benefits in North Carolina? | ||
| Yes | d) Should immigrants unlawfully present in the United States who graduate from North Carolina high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities? | ||
| It is past time for educators to get the support they deserve. Saying yes to state funding of charter schools was another tough one for me. To many times lower income families do not have access to these opportunities. My yes vote exists in hopes those funds can change that because our education system should be as diverse as possible. | |||

| Yes | b) Do you support government regulations of greenhouse gas emissions? | ||
| Yes | c) Do you support increasing state funding for clean drinking water initiatives? | ||
| The climate crisis is just that, a crisis. We need all hands on deck with all tools available to fight this thing. Who in their right mind would say no to clean drinking water initiatives?? | |||
| Yes | a) Do you generally support gun-control legislation? | ||
| Yes | b) Should background checks be required on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows? | ||
| No | c) Should teachers be allowed to bring guns into the classroom after passing gun safety training? | ||
| Yes | d) Should a license be required for gun ownership? | ||
| None of these questions on gun control are extreme. I am a proud Army Veteran and gun owner. Most all of us support common sense gun legislation. The right to bear arms is very important to me but we have to get this right. | |||

| Yes | e) Do you support eliminating religious exemptions for vaccinations? | ||
| No | f) Do you support requiring businesses to provide paid medical leave during public health crises, such as COVID-19? | ||
| This COVID crisis has laid our inequities to bare and a change has to happen right now. Medicaid expansion saves rural hospitals, creates jobs, funds mental health and drug treatment and it could have already happened. Lets not repeat that mistake again. | |||
| Yes | a) Do you support the inclusion of sexual orientation in North Carolina's anti-discrimination laws? | ||
| Yes | b) Do you support the inclusion of gender identity in North Carolina's anti-discrimination laws? | ||
| Yes | c) Do you support greater efforts by North Carolina state government in closing the pay gap between men and women? | ||
| Yes | d) Do you support local governments having the authority, without review by state authorities, to remove certain memorials or monuments from public property? | ||
| e) Other or expanded principles: | |||
| In the following area, please explain in a total of 100 words or less, any additional priorities of your campaign that have not been covered in these questions. | |||
| Getting the money to our schools and educators that they desperately need as well as creating new jobs in the agriculture and retail sectors. I plan to fund these efforts by presenting legislation aimed at legalizing medical marijuana. | |||
